Click here for information on function syntax.

Tip: If you can’t remember the syntax for a particular function, use the keypad to enter it.

Numerical values can be entered as decimals or in scientific form:

eg. 42.05 or 4.205e1  0.0056 or 5.6e-3

Positive and negative numbers in the range 10 -300 to 10 300 are supported.

Entering variables

Variables can be declared in the calculation entry field:

or in the variable drop-down list (the field marked in blue)

images\variabledropdown.gif

Variables are entered in the following format:

Name:=formula eg. MyVariable:=4+7

Variables can also be used in new variable declarations for example:

MyNewVariable:=4+7/MyVariable

To insert a variable in a calculation, you can drag its entry in the variable drop-down list onto the calculation entry field – Show Me.

Alternatively, you can use the drop-down list’s pop-up menu – Show Me.

Or double-click the selected variable in the variable drop-down list.

Variables can be sorted and deleted from the drop-down control’s pop-up menu.

Entering Constants

To insert a constant into a calculation, move the cursor to the position at which you want to insert the constant and then either use the pop-up menu or click the ‘Calculator Options’ menu. In either case, constants are listed under the ‘insert’ option.

Carrying out number Conversions

To convert a number from one quantity to another, select it either with the mouse or by using the cursor keys on the keyboard and then either use the pop-up menu or click the ‘Calculator Options’ menu. In either case, conversation factors are listed under the ‘Conversions’ option.

Tip: You can also select a number or variable by double-clicking it with the mouse.

Calculating Unknown Values

If you want to calculate an unknown value in a calculation, substitute question marks in the calculation for the value that is not known and then type the result in the result field below:

Then right-click the mouse on the result field and select the ‘Calculate Unknown Variable’ option. Questions marks in the entered calculation are then replaced by the correct value.

NB. The unknown value can appear more than once in the entered calculation.

Example: 10*?+4-?

Completing Iterative Calculations

To complete the same calculation a number of times, enter it as follows and then click the ‘Iterate’ button. Then follow the on-screen instructions to complete the iterative calculation.

For example:

Suppose you want to calculate the net value of an investment after 25 years that accrues interest at an annual rate of 10%.

Enter the following in the calculator:

Profit:=Profit*110/100

Then click the ‘Iterate’ button and enter the number of years the capital was invested in the first dialogue box followed by the initial capital value in the second dialogue box.

Tip: The variable to which the result is assigned, can have any name: it doesn’t have to be ‘profit’. And the iterative calculation can be of any length and may contain other variables that have already been declared.

Storing Calculations

Calculations can be dragged to the ‘history pane’ below the calculation entry field – Show Me.

You can also use these controls’ pop-up menus to do the same – Show Me.

To move a stored calculation back to the calculation field, you can carry out the action described above in reverse.

You can also permanently save and load calculations to named files by using the ‘Calculator Options’ menu – Show Me. Calculations saved to file, include any variables that are used, the contents of the ‘history’ pane and any notes entered in the ‘Notes’ pane.

Entries in the ‘history’ pane can be sorted and annotated by accessing its pop-up menu – Show Me.

The Syberad Calculator is supplied with a number of scientific and financial functions, together with full user instructions, that you can use and customize. These are stored in the ‘MyCalculations’ folder; this folder is accessed from the ‘Load Calculation’ option of the ‘Calculator Options’ menu.

Printing Calculations

To print a calculation together with its result and any variables it uses, click the ‘Print Result’ button at the bottom-right of the Calculator’s keypad.

You can also print the contents of the ‘history’ pane, by right-clicking it with the mouse and choosing ‘Print Entries’ from the pop-up menu.

NB. Printing is only enabled if there is a result shown in the results field of the Calculator.
